Watch the growth habit
Give the plant time to show you what it wants to do. Look for stem elongation, aerial roots and changes in how new leaves are positioned.
Look for climbing behaviour
If the stem begins extending upward and roots are appearing around the nodes, the plant is giving you a strong reason to consider support.
Choose the support to match the plant
